From the left-hand pane, expand 
Tasks and choose 
In Progress.
From the right-hand pane, right-click the task and from the menu, choose Cancel Task. Click the Yes button to confirm.
Tasks > Managing Tasks in Progress > Cancel a task in progress
From the left-hand pane, expand Tasks and choose In Progress.
From the right-hand pane, right-click the task and from the menu, choose Cancel Task. Click the Yes button to confirm.
